An effective and considerable treatment of pilonidal sinus disease by laser ablation

Proctology | 2024-08-12

Treating sacrococcygeal pilonidal disease (SPD) remains challenging, with no consensus on the best approach. This study evaluates the efficacy of 1470-nm radial diode laser fiber ablation in 48 patients treated between March 2019 and July 2022. The healing rate was 100%, with an average healing time of 28.3 days. The mean operative time was 15.5 minutes, and the recurrence rate was 2.1%. Postoperative pain was minimal, with no infections or bleeding. Patients resumed normal activities in 7.1 days on average and were highly satisfied. The 1470-nm radial diode laser fiber is effective, safe, minimally invasive, and promising for SPD treatment.
