Oral Surgery
? ? ? ? Lasers have been used in dentistry for approximately two decades. For many intraoral soft tissue surgical procedures, the laser is a viable alternative to the scalpel. There are many categories of soft tissue procedures that can be treated by lasers
The advantages of diode lasers in comparison to other conventional dental equipment are:
Increased coagulation, yielding a dry surgical field for better visualization.
Reduction in bacteremia- Using lasers for surgical techniques can lead to tissue temperatures effective in reducing bacteria.
Tissue surface sterilization;
Faster healing response. Laser energy can aid healing through photo-biomodulation;
Decreased swelling, edema and scarring;
Reduced pain and discomfort after surgery.
Minimally invasive surgical procedures, compared to conventional techniques;
Increased patient acceptance;
Reduced surgical time.
The patient will need minimal local anesthetic, and most patients prefer to receive some form of anesthesia
Stitches and periodontal packs may not be required, which can be especially advantageous for pediatric or special needs patients
